Best Poster Award at International Meeting on Pathogenic Fungi
Dr. Dalia Sheta wins Best Poster Award for groundbreaking research on alveolar macrophages in pulmonary aspergillosis.
Jena/Würzburg – The Collaborative Research Centre CRC Transregio 124 (“Pathogenic fungi and their human host: Networks of interaction – FungiNet”) recognized Dr. Dalia Sheta for her outstanding contribution to fungal immunology. Dr. Sheta was awarded the Best Poster Award at the recent FungiNet and international Invasive Mycoses in Haematological Malignancies – IMIHM XV – conference for her pioneering work on the crucial role of alveolar macrophages in antifungal immune defense against pulmonary aspergillosis.
Her research provides new insights into the complex interactions between the immune system and Aspergillus species, a major cause of life-threatening infections in immunocompromised individuals. By shedding light on the protective mechanisms of alveolar macrophages, Dr. Sheta’s findings may open new avenues for therapeutic strategies to combat invasive fungal diseases.
The FungiNet conference, organized by Prof. Jürgen Löffler and supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, brought together leading scientists from Jena and Würzburg and all over Europe to explore the pathobiology of fungi, immune responses, and cutting-edge systems biology approaches. The award reflects Dr. Sheta’s innovative contributions to the field and highlights the importance of continued research in fungal infections.
